When we are baptized, we are baptized into the threefold ministry of Jesus—priest, prophet, and king. Today, the Prophet Isaiah speaks on God’s behalf and defines the prophet’s mission: to proclaim liberty to captives, healing to the brokenhearted, good news to the poor, and a time of favor from the Lord.
As members of the Church, baptized into Christ’s ministry, it is our responsibility to carry out this same prophetic mission. We are called to bring God’s message to the world, to offer healing and hope to those in need.
A recent Gallup study found that 70% of Americans consider themselves spiritual, yet only 15–20% regularly attend religious services. This reveals a deep hunger for connection with God and the community. Our churches can be places where people find that connection, just as Isaiah described in his prophecy.
