Last week was an eventful one in the United States. We inaugurated our next President and celebrated the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. Many of Dr. King’s quotes are as relevant today as they were over 60 years ago. Here is one that has stayed with me.
“If you can’t fly, then run; if you can’t run, then walk; if you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”
Those of us who work in the nonprofit and charitable world know that we experience seasons of incredible generosity and sometimes droughts that seem never to end. There are times when we can move forward with speed and strength and other times when we just have to hang on. We do our work not for the ordinary measures of success but because of the values in which we believe! Therefore, as Dr. King admonishes us, we must keep moving forward! Fly, run, walk, or crawl – let’s keep moving forward together.
