Pastoral Notes for Pentecost Sunday

I apologize for our notes sent earlier this week. Please accept my apologies. Below are updated notes for Pentecost Sunday. Thanks, Patrick

This Sunday, we celebrate the birth of the Church—not with bricks, but with breath and boldness. Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit is not an idea or a symbol, but a living force that brings unity, purpose, and courage.

“They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them.” – Acts 2:4

What began as a room of fear became a movement of faith. People from every nation heard the Gospel in their own language. Division was undone. Community was born.

Today, the Holy Spirit still breathes life into tired hearts, fire into mission, and clarity into confusion. As we emerge from spring into a new season, Pentecost calls each of us to ask:

Where is the Spirit inviting me to speak up?
How can I use my gifts to build up the Body of Christ?
Who might hear the Gospel more clearly if I share my story?

3 Calls to Action for Pentecost

1. Invite the Spirit Into Your Home
Give every parishioner a simple prayer card, email, or bulletin insert with the Come, Holy Spirit prayer.  Encourage families to pray it daily this week.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth.

O God, who has taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that in the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in his consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

2.  Reignite Your Role in the Mission
Use a SmartLink, in-person form, or QR code to invite parishioners to:
• Update contact info
• Share ministry interests
• Submit prayer intentions
The Spirit works through people. Let’s find out who’s ready to serve.

3. Make Giving a Spirit-Led Habit
Remind your community that generosity is a spiritual gift. Encourage recurring giving as a way to fuel the mission—not just this weekend, but every season.
Use SmartGive or Text-to-Give with the Pentecost theme:

“The Church was born in fire—let your gift keep the flame alive.

This Pentecost, may our parish not just commemorate the coming of the Spirit, but cooperate with it.  Let’s listen. Let’s speak. Let’s go. The world is waiting.
