4 Admirable Breast Cancer Survivor-Owned Nonprofits

October is breast cancer awareness month. It is organized by major charities working to increase awareness about the disease. It is also used to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and treatment. Pink ribbons are used as a symbol in honor of it. There are a few nonprofit fundraising efforts undertaken by survivors of this disease.

These nonprofits could be small in size but they have a lot to teach their larger counterparts. Through their personal connection to the disease they bring in a level of passion which is otherwise unparalleled.

Here are a few breast cancer survivor owned nonprofits that serve as an example for us all. We can learn how we can create sustainable, memorable campaigns around an issue, while also make an impact.

Pink Ribbon Girls

This nonprofit was created to help women diagnosed with breast cancer in every aspect of their journey. They not only provide meals for absolutely no cost and house cleaning services but also rides to appointments and peer support services.

My Hope Chest

My Hope Chest

This nonprofit funds breast reconstruction surgery for breast cancer survivors who don’t have an insurance to their name. They raise funds for it to take care of all the support and services.

Breast Cancer can stick it

This nonprofit organises a free Drumathon, combining the passion for music and drumming in particular to invite top fundraisers for the event on the stage to play solo for two minutes. They not only raise funds for breast cancer victims but also make it a fun get together for everyone involved in the cause.

Knitted Knockers

Knitted Knockers

This nonprofit makes it a point to provide knitted breasts approved by doctors to those who can’t afford hot, heavy and expensive silicone prostheses. They are soft and fit perfectly, making life easier for women who have suffered this malady.

These are a few nonprofits which are owned by cancer survivors and are doing some exemplary work. They serve as an example to us in all our nonprofit fundraising efforts.
